Braefoot and Coldest Night Of The Year

The Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) is a community driven fundraising event held annually in towns all across Canada. Organized by the non-profit organization Blue Sea Philanthropy, the event seeks to raise awareness and funds for charities that support individuals and families facing homelessness, hardship, and hunger.

Taking place during the winter months, participants in CNOY come together to walk in solidarity through the cold night, symbolizing the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness. The event not only serves as a fundraiser but also as a powerful way to engage the community in addressing issues related to homelessness.

This year some of our staff at Braefoot participated in the event and fundraiser including our Operations Manager Amanda Kelly who raised over $500 for the cause this year and had this to say about the event."Participating in the Coldest Night of the Year walk not only allows you insight into the challenges faced by those experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness while braving the cold; but also fosters a profound connection we have to one another as we ignite hope, warm hearts, and light pathways for those in need."

Here at Braefoot Community Association, our values and the Coldest Night of the Year event go hand in hand. We're all about creating a close-knit and supportive community, something that aligns perfectly with CNOY's emphasis on families joining forces for a shared cause. Our commitment to education, seen in our support for post-secondary students, fits well with CNOY's efforts to fund educational programs for those in vulnerable situations.

Participants form teams, and together they embark on a chilly evening stroll, experiencing firsthand the conditions that many vulnerable individuals endure during the winter months. Funds raised during the Coldest Night of the Year are directed towards local charities and organizations that provide crucial services such as shelter, food, and support to those in need.

CNOY fosters a sense of empathy and community spirit, as participants, sponsors, and volunteers unite to make a positive impact on the lives of others. The event's unique approach not only raises funds but also promotes understanding and compassion, making it a meaningful and impactful initiative in the fight against homelessness in Canada.

Our appreciation for the outdoors and nature also aligns with CNOY's focus on outdoor activities, promoting physical well-being and community engagement. Both of our organizations share a dedication to fostering a caring community environment, and participating in CNOY provides a meaningful platform for our community members to walk together, raising awareness and funds for those experiencing homelessness. Lastly, our commitment to continuous improvement mirrors CNOY's ethos of always striving for better. Joining CNOY isn't just an event, it's an opportunity for Braefoot to actively contribute to the betterment of our wider community.
